Travel & Accomodation

Our celebration will take place in Canada, Kate’s home country, in the town of Banff, in the province of Alberta. We think you'll love it there, but since many of you have never been there, here is some information you may find useful:

Flights:

Banff is 90 minutes west of the city of Calgary, which is the closest airport. Calgary International Airport is airport code YYC.

Most major airlines fly to Calgary, though depending on where you are coming from, you may need to connect. Air Canada and West Jet are the two major Canadian airlines that you may want to check out.

West Jet: http://www.westjet.com/guest/en/home.shtml

Or try: http://skyscanner.com/

The Banff tourism website has a section for "getting to Banff":

Ground Transportation:

There are three options for getting to Banff.

Option 1 is to rent a car at Calgary Airport:

For Banff first timers, it is a seriously easy drive from the Calgary airport to Banff - just a few turns and then a straight drive on the Trans-Canada highway. Even with snow, the plows get the road clear pretty quickly.

NOTE: if you are driving, you will have to pay per car/per person Banff National Park fees for the duration of your stay.

Option 2 is to take one of the shuttle services (please pre-book!):

Option 3 is to share a car rental with someone else. If you would like Kate and Dave to help you coordinate with someone else arriving around the same time, please let us know by emailing Kate at khurtig@gmail.com.

Hotel/Condo/Chalet:

We have been able to secure a wedding rate at the Banff Springs Hotel, where the dinner & party will be, and therefore, for those of you who would like to stay there, please ring, quoting "Hurtig-McAllister wedding"

Other options:

There are many other options in Banff varying between hotels, condos or renting an apartment or chalet, depending on what works for you. Here are a few we recommend but there are many options in this tourism friendly town. We do not recommend the Inns of Banff or the Elkhorn Lodge.

The Fox Hotel & Suites:

Buffalo Mountain Lodge:

note - this is a bit outside of town

Banff Aspen Lodge:

Homestead Inn:

There are of course many others, depending on if you would like self catered or not.

The following are sites for private home rentals, which is a great option if you are staying for a longer period of time or with kids.
